I started this a while ago, and finally got it finished. This has been my ‘I’m not in the mood to paint’ or my ‘I’m at work and I’m bored’ piece. I finally finished it up tonight and couldn’t wait to share. I haven’t done much with colored pencils, and it’s a completely different technique for me, but something I love to mess with sometimes. This piece will get framed and hung up in my kitchen with pride.

I’d originally started this piece as an exercise in working a little looser than I usually do. Yeah, it didn’t really happen. I think I’m just unable to not be details, and I rather think I like that. I can appreciate impressionism, I can appreciate loose work, but it’s not something I’m able to do. It feels unfinished to me when I do it. But those that ask me to do a painting for them seem to like the way I do things, and I do too.

I’d thought about doing each colored pencil sketch under it’s own catagory, but decided when it’s just ‘play’ stuff, I’ll just stick it under the general heading of colored pencil.

This is one of those pieces. I started this on the car ride to St. Louis to get together with some friends, and I’ve been working on it since (waiting at the airport to pick Jon up, in IHOP waiting for food, at work when I have nothing better to do). It’s still not done, but I haven’t put a ton of time towards it with all the other things I have going on. It’ll get finished eventually. heh

It is almost done, though. It’s all basically fabric and background work from here on out. Not sure if I’m gonna darken the background cloth up yet. I’ll figure that out when it’s more done. For now, here it is. Not the greatest picture, but it gives an idea at least. Colored pencil is hard to photograph for some reason (at least it is for me).
