I work exclusively in acrylic paints, but their flexibility allows me to do a variety of subject matters as well as paint on a much wider variety of surfaces than most other mediums. Everything I have listed below I have painted or painted on at least once, and enjoyed enough to be willing to repeat the experience.
I do take commissions for paintings, but keep one thing in mind: The style you see in my paintings is the style I paint in. I will not change that style, or paint in another style because you’re willing to pay me to do so. There are many artists with many different styles out there, and I might be able to even help you find someone that will be more to your liking.
For paintings of all kinds, I do use photo reference, and much prefer a high resolution digital image, as I work from my computer more often then a printed photo. However, if you only have a photo, I can and will work from that as well. If you don’t have a digital camera, but would like a painting done, I will be more than willing to take a picture myself for the painting. The extra fee to do this will be $20 for a still life or landscape/cityscape (plus milage), $30 for animal photos. And yes, you can have a copy of any photos I take for our own use as well should you desire, and it would be no extra cost.
I can match most colors fairly closely if you are looking for something particular in an abstract or would like a house painting, but done a different color, but I will need an actual color sample.
My subject matter for paintings is varied, but I decided a list would be necessary:
- Landscapes (including water, barns, and animals in the scene)
- Cityscapes
- Animal Portraits (single or multiple animals)
- Still Life (and I will try most any object)
- Abstracts
At this time I do not paint portraits of people at all. I may, however, in the future be doing child portraits, but adult portraits may never happen
For non-commissioned paintings, I normally work with stretched canvas, but there are numerous surfaces that I will paint on:
- Stretched canvas (sizes somewhat limited)
- Canvas board (sizes somewhat limited)
- Hard board (almost unlimited size, great for framing)
- Metal (customer provided)
Any framing desired is the responsibility of the customer. I will help in picking out frames and matting if desired, but I will not buy, put together or completely design your framing.
Prices vary depending on subject matter, size, and if there is a short deadline for the piece (requesting a piece in August to be finished by the end of September, for example). I can give you a firm estimate on the price of a piece once I have photos of what you want painted and an exact size and surface to paint on.
A $100 non-refundable deposit is required before I actually start painting a piece (a rough sketch can be given before the deposit is made if requested, though). This protects me in the event that customer decides the piece is not to their liking, no matter how much I try to work with them, are just unable to pay the remaining balance (which is required at or before delivery) or just plain changes their mind on the piece. While I may be able to sell it, custom paintings are often more interesting to the person that commissioned them, and I may not be able to get full value for it.
I’m generally up for trying to surfaces to paint on, and won’t laugh at you for what you want painted (maybe a little giggle if it’s really cute, though), so contact me and let’s discuss what beauty I can bring into your home, or the home of a loved one.
